Whether Toki is already part of your home or you’re just now being introduced to our brand, you may have a few questions and/or concerns about our products. Although you can always reach out to support@tokimats.com for anything, here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions about our products, materials, pricing, and more. 

What are the play mats made of?

Our play mats consist of a fabric cover and two inserts made of natural latex foam. 

Cover options:

• 100% organic cotton (GOTS certified)
• Water-based, microfiber PU vegan leather (OEKO-TEX certified)
• Bamboo jersey + organic cotton + spandex blend (OEKO-TEX certified)

Foam options:

• Natural latex foam  (OEKO-TEX certified)
• Organic latex foam (GOLS-certified)

What if my baby has a latex allergy?

Due to the way latex is processed to create latex foam, latex foam typically does not cause an allergic reaction in people with a latex allergy. The allergenic proteins in natural rubber are removed during vulcanization, and then washed away. You may read more about the process here. Additionally, the mat cover acts as a protective layer that prevents any direct contact with the latex foam. You may also order a sample kit (it’s free!) or reach out to support@tokimats.com to request a sample of our latex foam (shipping costs not included) to make sure that they are safe for your child.

What is the difference between the classic foam insert and the organic foam insert?

Both our foam inserts are made from the same raw material—tree sap. Although they are both certified free of toxins, our organic foam is GOLS-certified and meets a stringent criteria of social and environmental responsibility. The consistency between the two products also varies slightly. While both the classic foam and organic foam have the same firmness, the organic foam has a slightly more spongy feel.

Why is my foam insert turning yellow?

Natural latex foam turns yellow as it ages, due to the oxidation of the plant material. This is a natural process—the same way that paper yellows with age—and it does not affect the quality or performance of the foam!

What is the difference between the standard size, mega size, and epic size mat?

Our standard size mat is our smallest and measures 40 x 40 inches. Our mega size mat is the second largest, measuring at 55 x 55 inches. Our epic size mat is our largest, measuring at 60 x 84 inches. To figure out which size mat is right for your family, you may refer to this guide.

Why is my play mat heavy?

Latex foam is inherently dense, which is why it’s able to be soft, responsive and supportive. Our play mats are foldable for easy storage and portability, and our vegan leather mats come with a built-in carry handle.

Are the mats actually non-toxic?

Yes! We pride ourselves on sourcing the highest quality materials that are certified by third party agencies for safety, quality, and purity. All our materials are either OEKO-TEX certified, GOTS certified, or GOLS certified. You can read more about what these certifications mean and why they matter here.

How do I clean my play mat?

If you have a cotton cover or a bamboo jersey cover, you may remove the foam inserts and machine wash the cover on a cold setting and a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Do not use fabric softener or chlorine bleach. Hang to dry.

If you have a vegan leather cover, you may simply wipe it clean with any chemical-free cleaner as needed.

As natural latex foam is not water resistant, the foam inserts should only be spot cleaned with mild soap and water. If you have a cotton or bamboo jersey cover, you may want to consider purchasing a waterproof protector.

How do I put the foam inserts back inside the cover?

1. Lay the cover out flat with the bottom facing up.
2. Unzip both sides.
3. Fold a foam insert in half and hold both ends, dropping it inside the middle of the unzipped cover.
4. Open up the foam inside the cover, aligning each of the corners (like you would with a duvet).
5. To achieve a perfect fit, reach into the cover and pull the edge of the foam up along the cover seam. Once assembly is complete and the mat is flipped back over, the foam will lay nicely without any gap.
6. Zip the completed side of the cover closed. Repeat steps 3-6 on the other side.
7. Flip the mat over and pat down any places where the foam looks uneven. The more your child plays on the mat, the more the foam will settle in!

Why are the play mats so expensive?

We’re big believers in the saying, “You get what you pay for.” As a mom-founded brand that creates play products for babies and children, safety is our number one priority. We are never willing to compromise on safety or quality, and every Toki mat is made with incredible care and the cleanest materials. Where are your products made?

All of our materials are imported abroad from our manufacturing partners in India, Sri Lanka, and China. All of our products are then reviewed for quality assurance, assembled, and shipped from California, USA.

How often do you restock your products?

Our signature patterns are regularly restocked, but our limited patterns are only available for a limited time and do not get restocked. Occasionally, there may be short periods where signature patterns are unavailable, but they are very quickly restocked.

Do you ever bring back retired prints?

No, we typically do not bring back old prints.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! Our international shipping rates calculate all duties and custom fees upfront, so there are no hidden costs upon delivery. 

How long will my order take to ship?

We try to ship orders quickly, but depending on sales volume, fulfillment may take up to 10 business days from our warehouse in Tarzana, California. If you need an item faster, you can contact us at support@tokimats.com with a special request and we will do our best to accommodate the expedited shipping time.
